SOUTHFIELD, Mich., May 21, 2019 – The United States Advanced Battery Consortium LLC (USABC), a subsidiary of the United States Council for Automotive Research LLC (USCAR), and a collaborative organization of FCA US LLC, Ford Motor Company and General Motors, today announced the award of a $3.1 million technology development contract to Gotion Inc. in Independence, Ohio for a new electrolyte program.

The contract award, which includes a 52 percent cost share by Gotion, funds a 24-month project that began earlier this year. The program goal is to develop an electrolyte system to significantly reduce cell gassing and provide surface protection in lithium-ion batteries.

USABC is a subsidiary of the United States Council for Automotive Research LLC (USCAR). Enabled by a cooperative agreement with the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE), USABC’s mission is to develop electrochemical energy storage technologies that support commercialization of hybrid, plug-in hybrid, electric and fuel cell vehicles.
