USCAR encompasses a broad, diversified and important portfolio of R&D collaboration.
Through USCAR, DaimlerChrysler, Ford and General Motors bring together the best minds from the U.S. automotive industry, government agencies and laboratories, private business (suppliers) and educational institutions to advance important, socially responsible automotive issues related to energy, the environment and safety. At USCAR, the three U.S. automakers can do more, better, quicker, while achieving significant cost efficiencies. Individually, non-competitive research tasks would be far more difficult, potentially redundant, and in many instances, impossible to achieve as quickly by individual companies. USCAR research results in advances in such areas as energy storage, lightweight materials, hydrogen, powertrain, fuel cells, safety and electronics. These contribute to a shared knowledge base that advances new automotive technology, offers solutions to industry-wide challenges and strengthens the competitiveness of the U.S. auto industry.
